Apologetics Definition.
We are often asked, “What is apologetics? What does that word mean?” Maybe you’ve wondered that yourself. The word apologetics comes from the Greek word apologia (pronounced: ap-ol-og-ee’-ah), which appears in 1 Peter 3:15:
“Always be ready to give a defense [apologia] to everyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.”
In ancient Greece, apologia was a legal term meaning “a reasoned defense.” In the same way, Christian apologetics is the branch of theology dedicated to defending the truth of the Christian faith. It involves presenting evidence, answering objections, and making a case for why Christianity is reasonable, reliable, and true.
